Golf Tips and Techniques - Golf Chipping Drills

Now why should we spend our valuable time on golf chipping drills? I've got a $400 driver and 2 new hybrids. Let's head to the range.

Does that sound familiar?

Have you ever seen a good player who doesn't score well? He's the guy who says "you know, I hit the ball pretty well today, but I just couldn't score." Have you ever seen a weaker player who's always in the hole? He's the guy who looks like he's out of it, then scrambles around and makes a par or bogey and somehow avoids disaster.

My guess is that the good player has a bad short game and the weaker player can chip and putt with the best. It doesn't make a lot of sense that a good player should be bad around the green, or that a weak player should get better the closer he gets to the putting surface. But that's the case many, many times over.

Why is that? I think it happens because the short game is totally different from the full swing game. With the full swing, we have basically the same swing style and mechanics from the driver down through the full wedge. The swing looks pretty much the same with all of those clubs. But the short game is a whole different animal. It requires different skills and techniques than the full swing.

Take chipping, for instance. This is always a short shot, but there are lots of variables that can make the chip complicated. Like deep rough around the green, thin lies in shaved chipping areas, or steep slopes and drop-offs. To make things even more complex, we have a variety of chipping clubs at our disposal, everything from 5 iron through lob wedge.

Maybe we can't become a great golfer, but possibly we could become a great chipper. It's conceivable that we might see a reduction of 10+ strokes per round. You can click here to find some very good golf chipping drills that work for golfers of various skill levels. These are drills that you can do at the practice green or in the backyard.

So maybe it's time to become a great chipper. Make the chipping green or the backyard your practice companion for the next few weeks and watch your scores come tumbling down. And if you need some help with tips and techniques, visit ShortGameHelp.info

By Darla Blackmon

Golfers traveling to Southern California will want to make a stop in the town where Tiger Woods got his start. The golf icon learned the game on a Long Beach golf course. The city has half a dozen courses of various levels of play where amateurs, pros, and everyone in between can practice their swing like a champion.

Golfing is a popular past time around the world, but especially in the cities that line the sunny California coast. With less than a month's worth of rainy days each year, it doesn't matter whether the calendar says January or June, it's always the ideal weather for golfers to go play a round or hit a bucket of balls.

You're sure to find a course that suites your tastes and skills. With the exception of Bixby Village, all of the above golf courses are owned by the city. These municipal courses even allow online booking, so you can reserve a tee time at your leisure.

If you really want the golf experience of a lifetime, come to this coastal community to play during the summer months (May-August) and get involved in the Long Beach Golf Festival. This event starts in the beginning of May and consists of at least nine different golf tournaments spaced out over the course of four months.

The annual golf festival includes the following tournaments:

Top 5 Golf Swing and Scoring Secrets Helped Me Break 80 in Golf

By Joe Collinsworth

I'm sure if you've click to read this article you want to improve your golf game.

Golf is definitely one of those sports that is both challenging and fun.

I have spent the last 20 years playing golf and improving my scores.

In fact it was within the first 5 years with a lot of practice and improvement was when I played my best (in terms of shooting in the 70's consistently).

I don't say this to brag, but to tell you that I can help you improve your golf game with the following golf swing and scoring secrets that I discovered through trial and error, practice, and coaching that will also help you.

**Golf Swing Fundamentals.

Your game will never get better on a consistent basis unless you master the fundamentals. There is no cookie cutter approach to the golf swing, but there are areas such as the takeaway, the backswing, your grip and hands, turn/shift of your body, head position, impact through the ball, and follow through. It sounds like a lot, but it is what makes up the golf swing. Focus on it and practice and you will get better.

**Golf Swing Setup.

Your positioning and setup make a huge difference in the rest of your golf swing. The golf swing works like a car. If one area is not working properly the rest of the car will not work well either. The golf swing has to be a well oiled machine that works in sync. It all begins with your setup.

This I was just watching on t.v. and the two above issues were brought up in an interview by one of the professionals on how they were tweaking their golf game.

**Course Management & Mental Control.

Learning how to play the course is critical and when to hit safe shots versus go for the gold so to speak. A par or bogey can quickly turn into a triple or more with poor course management. Then you have to deal with the mental aspects of a bad shot or hole.

**Knowing Your Clubs.

What I mean by this is how well and far you hit each club. Knowing what clubs to hit in different situations. This comes with practice and paying attention. We wonder why the pros shoot darts at the pin. It's because they know exactly how far away from the hole they are and what club to use. Also, how to hit different shots in different situations. Whether it's windy, normal, dry, wet, or other, you should know how to hit shots that turn out just right.

**The Short Game.

It's the short game that will help you make par when it seems impossible. It's the chipping, putting, and bunker play that will really make or break your game. I've had rounds where my driver and iron play were almost perfect hitting every green in regulation, but my chipping and putting were awful causing poor scoring. Then I've seen golfers who struggled off the tee or with hitting greens and still make good scores. Master the short game with practice, knowing your clubs, what shots to hit when, and how to putt and your scores will drastically improve.

Those are the top 5 golf swing and scoring secrets that made my golf game not to mention other golfers. Focus on them and I promise you your scores will improve.
