Top 5 Golf Swing and Scoring Secrets Helped Me Break 80 in Golf

By Joe Collinsworth

I'm sure if you've click to read this article you want to improve your golf game.

Golf is definitely one of those sports that is both challenging and fun.

I have spent the last 20 years playing golf and improving my scores.

In fact it was within the first 5 years with a lot of practice and improvement was when I played my best (in terms of shooting in the 70's consistently).

I don't say this to brag, but to tell you that I can help you improve your golf game with the following golf swing and scoring secrets that I discovered through trial and error, practice, and coaching that will also help you.

**Golf Swing Fundamentals.

Your game will never get better on a consistent basis unless you master the fundamentals. There is no cookie cutter approach to the golf swing, but there are areas such as the takeaway, the backswing, your grip and hands, turn/shift of your body, head position, impact through the ball, and follow through. It sounds like a lot, but it is what makes up the golf swing. Focus on it and practice and you will get better.

**Golf Swing Setup.

Your positioning and setup make a huge difference in the rest of your golf swing. The golf swing works like a car. If one area is not working properly the rest of the car will not work well either. The golf swing has to be a well oiled machine that works in sync. It all begins with your setup.

This I was just watching on t.v. and the two above issues were brought up in an interview by one of the professionals on how they were tweaking their golf game.

**Course Management & Mental Control.

Learning how to play the course is critical and when to hit safe shots versus go for the gold so to speak. A par or bogey can quickly turn into a triple or more with poor course management. Then you have to deal with the mental aspects of a bad shot or hole.

**Knowing Your Clubs.

What I mean by this is how well and far you hit each club. Knowing what clubs to hit in different situations. This comes with practice and paying attention. We wonder why the pros shoot darts at the pin. It's because they know exactly how far away from the hole they are and what club to use. Also, how to hit different shots in different situations. Whether it's windy, normal, dry, wet, or other, you should know how to hit shots that turn out just right.

**The Short Game.

It's the short game that will help you make par when it seems impossible. It's the chipping, putting, and bunker play that will really make or break your game. I've had rounds where my driver and iron play were almost perfect hitting every green in regulation, but my chipping and putting were awful causing poor scoring. Then I've seen golfers who struggled off the tee or with hitting greens and still make good scores. Master the short game with practice, knowing your clubs, what shots to hit when, and how to putt and your scores will drastically improve.

Those are the top 5 golf swing and scoring secrets that made my golf game not to mention other golfers. Focus on them and I promise you your scores will improve.
